Local Park Cleanup

Total Credit Hours:
2 Hours

Cleaning up a local park is a rewarding way to help the environment and improve your community. Parks are vital green spaces that provide habitats for wildlife, improve air quality, and offer recreational areas for people. Unfortunately, litter and debris can harm these ecosystems and make the space less enjoyable for visitors. By dedicating a few hours to a park cleanup, you can make a visible difference while protecting the environment.

To get started, bring essential supplies like gloves, trash bags, and a grabber tool to safely pick up litter. Wear sturdy shoes and weather-appropriate clothing, and don’t forget sunscreen or bug spray if needed. Begin by surveying the park and identifying areas with the most litter, such as playgrounds, picnic areas, or walking paths. Collect trash and separate recyclables if possible, ensuring that items like plastic bottles, cans, and paper are disposed of properly. Be cautious when handling sharp objects or hazardous materials, and report any large or dangerous debris to local authorities.

Make sure to take before and after photos of the areas you clean to prove you completed this project. It is important to take a picture of the littered space before you begin, and then take another one of the same spot once it’s clean and trash-free. After you are finished, you will upload your images and answer a few questions.
